So I chose Future Rock on a whim as our 6th installment in the Summer Camp Artists Series, and I’m impressed already. They manage to do a unique take on the techno-jam category that seems to find new artists every day. Fans of Disco Biscuits, Signal Path, Alan Vasquez will have a vague idea of their sound if you can’t already imagine what techno-jam would soung like. Basically…. Future Rock is going to be an absolute dance party that I cannot wait to hear. The Chicago-based trio has been around since early 2004, and performs with the absolute minimum electronic material they can get by with. As their site says, “We manage to pull off our live show while keeping pre-recorded samples to a minimum. Ninety-nine percent of our live show is live.”
For those of you making the festival circuit this summer, Future Rock will also be at High Sierra in California and Wakarusa in Kansas. Check out more info at their website, and add them as friends on MySpace.
I’ve got a handful of live tracks offered on the main website, and you can always find more on Live Music Archive. I highly recommend “Airplane Traintracks,” the fourth one down, for those of you who like to dance, but all of the tracks are strong. From what I can tell they don’t have a studio release yet, and their Live DVD is sold out on their merch page. It’s all good, though, because Summer Camp is only 7 weeks away, and you’ll be able to pick stuff up there I’m sure.
