Fotoman & Alan Vasquez Tonight At Canopy Club

Well it’s about time for another post, I’ve been slacking the last few days it seems. Which is odd, those other days have been rather productive for me. Tonight Chambana gets treated to Fotomana and Alan Vasquez for the low low price of $5 at Canopy Club. I’ll be there with some friends, any of you in town should check it out. Cheap good live music. Can’t beat it.

Anyways, here’s a little Fotomana for you today, give it a listen. They’re Champaign-Urbana locals and have played shows throughout Chicago, as well as Summercamp 2005. I’m hoping they’ll be on this year’s lineup, too, but we’ll see.

Tracks from their album, One Soup Can.

Fotomana – “Scottish Song”

Fotomana – “Take Me Along”

Fotomana – “Americans”

And here’s a feature track from their unreleased/untitled upcoming album, via their sound guys, MartellStudios.com.

Fotomana – new single “Row Row” from future untitled release. (.m4a file)

Check out their website, Fotomana.com, for more live and studio tracks, including a past Canopy Club set.

The other half of tonight’s show features Alan Vasquez. Electro-Acoustic at its best, Alan is a one-man act. Hard to believe after you listen to a few of these tracks, but its true.

Alan Vasquez – “Breath” – From 8.21.04 Carbondale, IL

Alan Vasquez – “The Crave” – From 8.21.04 Carbondale, IL

Alan Vasquez – “Tranquility” – From 8.21.04 Carbondale, IL

Alan Vasquez – “Friends” – From 8.21.04 Carbondale, IL

Alan Vasquez – “Lotus” – From 1.30.04 Carbondale, IL

Good stuff. He also has some recent additions to his MySpace page, as well as more available at his main website, AlanVasquez.com. Sadly for the Illinois music scene Vasquez will be moving out to Fort Collins, Colorado at some point in the next year or so. Good for him though, apparently he needs the change. To quote a recent mailing list update (February 1st, 2006):

“I have decided with my fiance to move to the great state of Colorado. It was a big decision that we spent a lot of time thinking it through. To say first, this does not mean that I will not play here anymore. I have spent just over two years of my life traveling the Midwest and meeting all of you amazing people along the way. You are the reason I am still going strong with more inspiration than ever. Carbondale especially will always have an impact on me as it was the first place that took me in and gave me a foundation. I’m not going to stop, I’m not going to let up, I’m going to continue on and take all that you have given me so when I play for you upon my return, my progression will put a huge smile on your face because you will know that you were and are a part of it. I can’t express enough how every face, every smile, and every word that you have given me throughout my young career has made an incredible impact. If you can remember a memory of your own that sent a chill down your spine. Maybe an achievement that brought acknowledgement to yourself. Something that made you smile for days. This is how you make me feel every night on stage. It can be a jam packed show or a really small intimate show. It all does the same. I know that my connection with my music and my listeners and supporters is something special. I only know that because you taught me. So I hope that no one is feeling cheated or deserted. As I said I will still be back to play for you. It may only be two or three times a year, but I’ll see to it that it will happen. It has been a dream since I was young to live in the mountains. And its hard to fathom that it will become a reality in about five months. Trying to imagine traveling to all the mountain towns to spread my music makes me glow. Chicago is a great city, but its just not where I want to be. There is a sense of mentality here that really doesn’t ring well with me. I’ve met some amazing people here, some I hope to never lose touch with. But, you just know when you need a change. And I have and am conscious of this feeling. So please give me your thoughts on this move. Or if anyone has some people they know out in Colorado, or if by chance some of you are heading out there let me know so the word can begin to be spread to my future home.”

So give your support and get out to see AV and Fotomana tonight, it’ll be a nice intimate show in the front room of Canopy for Vasquez, not sure which part Fotomana will be rocking, though. See you all there.
