Year: 2005

Well, I really liked how yesterday’s “New Stuff” feature went, so I’ve decided to make it permanent. To clarify, New Stuff is a couple tracks and my opinions on albums I get sent in the mail by bands/publicists/whoever. I don’t intend to post about stuff I don’t personally listen to, enjoy, or recommend, so fear not, integrity is as tight as ever. That said, I just got a new one in by Grace Potter and The Nocturnals titled Nothing But Water. I’ve had it for a few weeks now so I’ve had plenty of time to digest it, and I do believe it’s a goodie. The album was recorded in a week in Plainfield, Vermont, at Goddard College’s Haybarn Theatre, apparently a rather historic place.

The band just finished up last weekend at Bonnaroo, playing the first set of the afternoon on Saturday in This Tent. I’ll probably be posting a live show of hers rather soon, because the ones I’ve heard so far are incredibly good. She’s got a voice to be feared and a solid band to back it up. Here’s my track picks from the album.

Nothing But The Water – Toothbrush and My Table. Very solid track, this is the first single off the album if I’m not mistaken. That or it’s the one they’re promoting.

Nothing But The Water – Nothing But The Water (Live Video). This is actually a link to a video you have to watch. I’d post the one of the album, but it’s a split track (11 & 12) and it seems a little special to the album, so you’ll have to get a full copy for that. Until then here’s a great live rendition.

You can buy Grace’s new album at Indie911.com.

Artist: Grace Potter and The Nocturnals Album: Nothing But The Water Label: Ragged Company Records (Band’s Imprint) Year: 2005 Well, I really liked how yesterday’s “New Stuff” feature went, so I’ve decided to make it permanent.
