Summer Camp Artist #22 – Animal Liberation Orchestra (ALO)

#22 in our Summer Camp Artist Series is a particular favorite of mine since last summer, Animal Liberation Orchestra, commonly referred to as ALO. The band is a four-piece arisen from a UC-Santa Barbara friendship. Originally a nine-piece, they’ve been around in their current incarnation as a quartet since 2002. They just released a new album on April 18th, which unfortunately I haven’t had a chance to hear yet. The band is funky and bubbly and if you stand still when they play you’ve got problems. As always check out the band’s site and befriend them on MySpace.

Today’s bit is from Vegoose in Las Vegas, Nevada, during last Halloween weekend. Give these tracks a listen, I’ve posted the full show but if you’d like to you can download the show in FLAC here via Archive.Org. I wish I could pick out a couple songs you should hit up first, but this whole show is just incredible, I love the whole thing.

Some of the show banter I enjoyed towards the end of “Girl, I Wanna Lay You Down.”

“I noticed there’s a cheerleader here today from the Mormon Church. Says LDS on her…. oh no that says LSD.”

Here’s a link to a good pic of the show, and another one of Jack Johnson playing during “Girl, I Wanna Lay You Down.”
