Summer Camp Artist #14 – Public Property

Well Summer Camp Artist Series #14 is Public Property. They have one of the best bio’s I’ve read from an artist’s site in awhile, so I’m gonna let them explain it all to you.

“Public Property is a 9-piece reggae band out of Iowa City, IA. While Public Property’s main inspiration is the sound of 60s and 70s Jamaican reggae, the band fuses hip hop, reggae, ska, soca, dub, hawaiiana, and rock/pop elements into its music. Formed in 2003, the group has grown from a trio to a 9-piece ensemble, complete with 3 female vocalists and a 6-piece rhythm section. While harmony, vocals, and a textured rhythm section drive the band’s music, its one love/one world message completes it, promoting humanism and understanding in a complex world.”

I received a review copy of their album in the mail this week, and I’m enjoying it quite a bit. It’s reggae out of Iowa, for one, so it’s instantly different from most reggae you’ve probably heard. Anyways, I’ve picked three tracks off of the album, What’s Goin Down, that I think are the strongest, or at least my favorites. “Power Trip” and “Higher” will get you dancing for sure, and “What’s Goin Down” is a solid track as well.

From 2005’s What’s Goin Down:

Public Property – Power Trip
Public Property – What’s Goin Down
Public Property – Higher

That’s all I’ve got, so go check out the band’s website, and befriend them on MySpace.
