Magnolia Electric Co and John Butler Trio

This is a post I made on Friday, June 10, 2005 at my old blog, which I thought was good enough to be reposted here on BurningOak.com. (I updated tour dates of course)

Friday, June 10, 2005:
Ok Music Recommendations for the day, we have a few choices!

First is Magnolia Electric Co., very chill low-key rock music you could say. Not sure who’d you compare him to, maybe Neil Young or some oldies, but go download the two free tracks from their newest album What Comes After The Blues. They are titled “The Dark Don’t Hide It” and “Leave The City,” and you can click on the titles of the tracks down below to hear them. Magnolia Electric Co. will be playing nearby shows on these dates:
05/13 Madison, WI – King Club
05/14 Milwaukee, WI – Cactus Club

Our second is The John Butler Trio. Great band that will be around this summer, click audio/video for some full-live-show downloads. JBT will be playing at Austin City Limits in September, and will be near Chicago on Sunday, June 19th for Taste of Randolph St. Festival, Chicago, IL, which is free I believe. All of JBT’s current show’s are scheduled in Australia and France until March 2006. So if you’re abroad, go see ’em.

Third today is Maneja Beto, also an Austin City Limits lineup member. They do upbeat latin music good for pretending to salsa too. Free music samples if you have quicktime at their site, just click on the mp3 next to the track listing.

And I was only going to do three today, but I’m feeling into it, so here’s our fourth and final, Mouse On Mars, who I found out played a Chicago show last night, the 9th, furthering my curse for discovering bands the day after they leave. Another Austin City Limits band, I will warn you, their website is pretty f’in crazy, lets just say when you get to the little spiky ball with yellow tumors on it, you can spin it around to get new tumors, which all have links, one of which is free mp3’s. But i’m going to save you some time, and just tell you that you have to send an email to [email protected] to get directions to the free mp3. My directions were go here, name is peter, password is pan. That password change sometimes it said, though, so you might have to do it yourself. A second free MP3 of a song from some sampler is available. However, I’ve made the links available below:

Agit Itter It It Name: Peter, Password: Pan

Some Sampler Song

Also on the spiky tumor ball, if you click one that says Sound Breeder, and then lay your mouse icon over one of the bugs, it will sample music for you. Yes it is difficult as hell to find.
Here are instructions for changing the bugs:
1. There are 12 different proto-creatures in the start area. Each of them has a distinctive sound.
2. If you want to listen to the sound of a creature try approaching it with your mouse arrow.
3. If you want them to reproduce try moving them on top of each other in the breed bed. You can distinguish the parents by their sounds.
4. The proto-creatures will reproduce whenever they want to. You will have to be patient. The children will have properties from both parent creatures.
5. Note that the children will be ready to reproduce themselves quickly.
6. If you do not want a certain creature to reproduce right now, just move it out of the breed bed.
7. The proto-creatures could reproduce without limit. They do not belong to anybody.

I can’t wait to see these guys, they are insane……
