10KLF Showcases – Family Groove Company

It’s about time I took a second to share some of 10KLF’s music with you rather than just babbling about it and telling you where to get it. I decided – like Summer Camp – to start off with some Family Groove Company, seein’ as they’re one of my favorites and all. Sadly John and I walked in during the closing notes of “New Speedway Boogie” at 10,000 Lakes on Thursday, which happens to be one of my favorite Family Groove Co. live tunes, and one of the very few Grateful Dead covers that I consider better than the original. There’s only two in fact; Family Groove Company playing “New Speedway Boogie” and Sublime playing “Scarlet Begonias.” If that isn’t testament enough, check out their cover of Sugarloaf’s “Green Eyed Lady,” a great intro by the stage guy oddly enough (my friend Vanessa gets mentioned), the great new title track off their new album, The Charmer, and their cover of Billy Preston’s “Will It Go Round In Circles.”
